Ghosts and Onionskins

Simple Spring Prayer

The winter prevailed
burnt my green into brown
hats, loafers, and watches,
late nights on the town
Press flowers suspended
upended, and drowned
Pick me from dying dirt
Don’t let me down

Pick me and pin me
to that emerald dress
plant upon heaving hills
that the heathens call breasts
So that Spring reaffirms me
and the petals undress
No treasure unopened
No love unprofessed
